Instructions for presentations

Technical instructions for oral presentations

In order to ensure that your presentations run smoothly, please download and read the recommendations and guidelines for presentations prepared by our technical partner MediAVentures - Guidelines.

Please note that you can make your presentation in any format, because the "virtual screen" of the size of the presentation is finally used. The presentation will be put as a window in a big screen, together with the headshot of the speaker and the name of the speaker and some logo and graphics in the background.  It does not matter whether your slideshow is 4:3, 2:3, 3:1, because our technical partner MediAVentures sizes the window within the big image to the right format. The screen format used is 16:9 (1920x1080) and about 4 x 7 meters big.  But that is the total image surface of which the presentations will take a part.
However, it is advised to use 4:3 format because this is still the most universal slide format.  This way, you can view and edit your presentation on any computer, not being dependent on widescreen format computers.3:1 is exotic and does not give any advantages in scientific projections.  It can be fancy when using a 2-3 projectors widescreen seamless set-up but even then there are technical details that need to be respected (for the seams).

Technical instructions for poster presentations

Poster boards are 0.95m in width x 2.30m in length  in portrait orientation. If your poster does not fit the required specifications you will not be able to display your poster. The number of each poster will be mounted on the poster boards at the beginning of the set-up times. Please locate your poster number to determine where your poster should be. Posters can be brought and mounted during all congress, starting on Thursday (September 16). The required material for hanging posters will be available at the registration desk. Posters should be removed by Saturday (September 18) 19:00.

Poster Specifications:

A poster must be readable from about 2 meters (use preferably a Bold font, 18-32 pt).
Prepare a label for the top of your poster indicating the title, the author(s) and their affiliation(s).

The poster must include:

1. Abstract
2. Introduction, problematic, objective
3. Methods
4. Results
5. Discussion
6. Conclusion

 - Captions should be brief. Avoid unnecessary details in figures, drawings and charts.
 - Number and title sections. Use simple fonts for both titles and text. Limit the use of capitals, lower case letters are easier to read. Emphasize by using Bold or Italic styles, but not the underline. Present the text in paragraphs.
 - Left-aligned text is generally the best for reading. Justified text (straight right margin) should be avoided.
 - Use the single background colour to unify a poster and to distinguish it from neighbouring posters. Lighter pastel colours are best as backgrounds. Using too many colours confuses and distracts the reader.
 - Do not mount illustrations on heavy board because these may be difficult to keep in position on the poster board.
 - Your poster should be self-explanatory so that you are free to supplement and discuss various points raised by other congress participants.
 - Have copies of your complete paper ready to hand out to interested persons. Include author name(s), mailing address, poster title, congress name and date. Include your e-mail address and the website address for your institution.
 - All materials must be prepared prior to the poster exhibition. There will be no graphic or computer print facilities available at the congress.

This movie requires Flash Player 7.
